To bring together Missionary Baptist Churches in a representative capacity for a definite and specific Christian work

To promote evangelism and leadership traning among members of the Local Churches

To promote unity among local Baptist Churches, Pastors and Auxiliaries of said churches

To print, publish and distribute Baptist Christian Literature in pursuance of Christian Education among local Baptist Churches

To render redemptive service to mankind of all ethical groups in our communities, whenever and where ever possible

But rise and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of the these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee...to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declar unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness, we lie, and we do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (John 1:5-7;3)

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thous sxhalt love the Lord thy God with all tihne heart, and with all thy sould, and with all thy might. And theser weords, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shal talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou riseth up. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 )

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-16 &5)

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:22-2 6)

HISTORY

Calvary's Historical Perspective....

December 3, 1947, a group of Pastors, representing several churches met on the above date at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 540 Farnsworth, Detroit, MI, where the late Rev. H.E. Owens, was then pastor.The meeting was opened with a fervent devotion, after which the late Dr. W.E. Ramsey, then pastor of the Gospel Temple Baptist Church, presided and stated the purpose of the meeting. Dr. H.E. Owens was selected as Temporary Chairman, and after remarks, the pastors registered with $1.00; Laymen .50; and churches with $5.00. The total registration was the sum of $67.00.After the registration, a committee on the permanent organization was appointed. Upon the retirement of the committee, for the selection and presentation of the official staff of this organization, the Chairman conducted a short devotion and called for remarks from the following visitors; Drs. S.D. Ross, Shiloh Baptist; the late Dr. A.C. Williams, then pastor of the Metropolitan Baptist Church; Dr. A.L. Merritt, then pastor of the First Baptist Church, Inkster; the late Dea. C.H. Bell, Warren Avenue Baptist Church; and Dea. Joe Williams, New Light.The committee returned and made its report of recommended officers.Mrs. Amanda Glenn acted as SecretaryModerator Rev. W.E. Ramsey, Gospel Temple Church1st Vice Moderator, Rev. W.M. Ferrell, New Grace Church2nd Vice Moderator Rev. E.C. Copeland, Union Second Baptist Church3rd Vice Moderator Rev. Nathaniel Jackson, First Baptist Church SouthwestRecording Secretary Rev. Joseph T. Thomas, Calvary Baptist ChurchCorresponding Secretary Rev. Roosevelt Williams, Community Baptist ChurchTreasurer Dr. H.H. Coleman, Greater Macedonia Baptist ChurchHistorian Dr. H.E. Owens, Mt. Olive Baptist ChurchBy motion the report was adopted. It was moved and seconded that this Association would takerepresentation in the Wolverine State Convention and the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. Motion Carried. The name of this organization, “The Calvary Missionary Baptist District Association,” was presented by the moderator and by motion was adopted. After this the Moderator, Dr. W.E. Ramsey, presented Dr. H.H. Coleman, who delivered a most striking message answering the age-old question: “What Is Man?” Gen. 2:7, Psalms 8:4. This ended the Morning Session. Benediction by the late Rev. W.M. Ferrell.In the Afternoon Session the Committee for the Constitution was appointed and plans for the First Inspirational Meeting to be held January 28, 1948, at the New Grace Baptist Church, Rev. W.M. Ferrell, Pastor, for completing the organization of the Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress. Total raised was, $117.48; ministers and laymen, $50.00; churches, $67.00; public $4.48. Benediction by Moderator Ramsey.This day December 3, 1947, birthed not only the Association, but also the following auxiliaries: Women’s Laymen, Youth and Congress of Christian Education, formally the Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress.This is the continuing of the 60 years of organization that has given to so many, inspiration and information and the profound feeling of belonging in the warm fellowship; that we have enjoyed down through the years.
